Lum and Abner

1939 Jot ’em Down Store, by Lum and Abner (aka Chester Lauck and Norris Goff).

The Lum and Abner show was a popular weekly radio broadcast in 1939 that could be heard in southern California. The duo played the proprietors of a general store called the Jot ’em Down Store in Arkansas. Their book (above) was in its third year of publication. It was a tongue-in-cheek catalog of items with humorous descriptions, an almanac (the final days of August are shown below), party games and corny jokes (also shown below). This blogger does not know how much of the book was changed each year but the days and dates in the almanac section are correct for 1939 (and 2017, too).
