The location of this photo is not available but it could be at a southern California airport. The 1939 Packard is an eight-door coach conversion with United Air Lines markings as has the passenger aircraft behind it.
Hotpoint
The Hotpoint brand of electric iron originated in Ontario, California in 1904. In 1939 it continued to be manufactured there. By then, the successor to the original Pacific Electric Heating Company made a variety of other electrical appliances elsewhere. The Hotpoint name came from a suggestion from the wife of the iron’s inventor to concentrate the heat at the point for easier pressing around clothing features. It became so popular that the name was used for the other appliances, too.

Old Baldy and oranges
This wintertime view of the peak in the distance shows orchards of oranges in the flatlands. “Old Baldy” is actually Mt. San Antonio. The real Mt. Baldy is farther into the mountains. This scene is looking northward in the Claremont or Upland area.
